Diecutting
Dieline File Preparation
When creating a dieline file for a project that includes a diecut, it's best
to use an illustration application, such as Adobe Illustrator. The dieline
drawing should be created at 100% of the final diecut size and include only
1pt lines and paths (no fills). Create a custom spot color and name it something
like "MyDieline." Apply this spot color as the stroke color for
all elements of the dieline and set the stroke attribute to "Overprint
Stroke" in the Attributes pallet. (In Illustrator select Window
> Show Attributes. Once the Attributes pallet is open, select all of your
dieline elments and check the box nex to "Overprint Stroke").
If your dieline includes folding/score lines, it's best to differentiate these with a dashed line. You can also create a second spot color named something like "Scores" and apply this color to the score and fold lines, again you'll need to set the stroke attribute to "Overprint" as well.
If you have any questions about dieline creation, feel free to contact our Digital Prepress Department for advice. You can also download and reference any of the dieline files in our Dieline and Template Gallery that's located in our Resources area. Click here to go there now.
