Standard and custom envelope conversions
Lange Graphics provides both standard and custom envelopes. The need for custom envelopes is a result of limitations that exist when printing on pre-folded envelopes. Our envelope-conversion services enable us to manufacture just about any type of standard or custom envelope you may need by printing on a flat sheet that is folded into the envelop shape after printing. Here's some basic information to help you better understand the envelope-conversion process.
Standard envelope conversions
To create standard-sized envelopes we use a solid-steel die, called a high die, which cuts through a large stack (or lift) of flat-sheet printed envelopes — essentially like a cookie cutter. Once the printed sheets are die cut into the envelope shape, they are folded and glued. A re-moistenable adhesive is then added to the flap.
Custom envelope conversions
The cost of building a high die for most custom conversions would be cost prohibitive, so an adjustable die is used for most types of envelopes. While there exists high dies for many standard envelopes, an adjustable die is a good option for many custom projects since the four independent blades of the die can be moved to accommodate a wide range of envelope sizes. In this case the corners of the cut sheet will be square (as opposed to rounded).
